    Transporting a pistol

Just a quick question gents. I have looked on the police website but can't seem to find what is required when taking a pistol from home to the range. Is the plastic case sufficient, or do I need something more substantial that locks?.

Neither the Arms Act nor the arms regulations actually specify any specific method of carriage but any such carriage is subject to the conditions of your endorsement (B category). That has always been that the pistols may be carried to and from your residence to a recognised pistol range, a licensed firearms dealer, or a Police station, and shall be carried in a 'lockable container'. The material of that container has not been specified, nor is it specified that it shall be a 'locked container'.

Glove-box is a lockable container, as is the whole vehicle. Sorted.

    Agree with stretch.

Having a locked container is pointless unless it is affixed to the vehicle.

I am thinking of having a hidden lock box for pistolas in my new truck when I get it.

Was thinking how I would transport them on the interilander if I ever drive up to a shoot. No different to a rifle I know, but the thought of them being a broken window away from some lowlife, irks me no end.

for me , they go from the safe , ... into a zippered pouch , then into the range bag , then into the boot of the swift , .... then to the range . and back again ...

Mine are all in factory cases but then looking at travelling to Hokitika this weekend how do you secure them at your accomodation if you go out. Will take a chain and padlock

    PNZ do not write law...
So the answer is no, it's a recommendation.

    True true.

So are we thinking just jam it in the range bag on the back seat?
