I did review a VCSEL 850nm on my YouTube channel and it was reaching a house 1,185m away, maybe I should give that one some thought. The issue with adjustable focus models is the need for the mounts that allow you to adjust the angle and they aren't cheap.
I've found that most hunters would rather go for a thermal anyway. I was talking to a couple of torch companies and they have said the same, large decline in IR torches with hunters shifting to thermal.
I gifted a Pard NV008S to my Dad and he said he likes his thermal way better.
