Off for a look, lad needs a torch, maybe I do too.
What is you best bang for buck that runs single AA?
Had a quick look but didn't notice any head torches? Have notice my convoy (I think it is anyway) has much nicer yellow light than my other torches

Yep you're not wrong, I run 18650 batteries in my torches/head torch. Lad has a Zebralight head torch that runs AA's. So want to stay like for like so he only needs to run one set of batteries for nowQuote:

The other model is the Convoy T2 which is more solid and easy to fix/upgrade years down the track. It's only approx 100 lumens with an AA, whereas the SP10S is 215.
SP10S is great value, but when you see higher lumens for the same price or less, it often means corners have been cut. The T2 sacrifices brightness for better build quality. Both are decent for how affordable they are.
There's also the Sofirn SF11 that takes 4x AA's for $35.
Yeah, they're available in multiple color tints than most competing brands out there. The top brands usually try get your attention with high lumens and cool white tints offer the highest. The more yellow, or warmer, the tint is, the lower the lumens you get.Quote:

A few torches turned up today from Jacob.
I grabbed a head torch and a couple of torches as spares and one for the boy. I have only shone them outside over the school field next door but first impressions on them, I am impressed.
Yeah I've bought 4 or 5 torches off Jacob and have been totally impressed with the service and the products - so big thumbs up to Jacob.
My go to torches I use a lot are a Sofirn SP32A V2 (the driver gives a constant output and doesn't fade as the battery runs down) and just recently got a Convoy S2+ with the Osram LED - a good little spotter.
I use the above torches (in conjunction with my Maxtoch headlamp - will replace this with one of Jacob's if it ever craps out) as my lightweight/compact go to torches when going bush/hunting. Depending on where I'm going I use the SP32A in closed in bush area's and when I need a bit more reach particularly in more open area's i use the Convoy S2+.
Highly recommend his products.
Living on Stewart island I chose the rural freight option, turned out he wasn't charged rural and he refunded the difference.... Says a lot for him right there
I have a wee torch for work that runs on a single AA OR the rechargeable 14500 li-ion (available from Jacob). Brand is Nicron, which I picked up at Jcar for very little money. It has the ability to angle the head, and when running the 14500 battery, is very capable for possum bashing out to 50 yardsQuote:

Got my Sofirn SP40 Kit on the doorstep today, with the short battery and tube for it as extras. Nicely made, excellent price, can't wait to try the green light out.
Currently only the Convoy T2 AA/14500. The Sofirn SP10S has been discontinued, but will be replaced by the SP10 Pro at a later date.Quote:

Torches that use both battery types are useful, but very limited with AA's due to the low voltage. You usually need 4+ to achieve decent lumens, whereas using a lithium battery you only require just the one
