    Chaz Forsyth

Chaz Forsyth has passed on, for those that knew him.

The guy was basically an institution in the NZ shooting world. I was dealing with him right up to Christmas and he seemed to be battling his illness with strength and humour and I had no idea his time was so short. We have been diminished.

We met when sitting university entrance exams and went on to friendship. Always fun to be around. A great guy.

A life well lived. Got a well deserved gong last King's Birthday.

Met Chaz a few times many many years ago through MSC. A heck of a nice guy and always battling for the cause of hunters and firearms folks. Sleep well old friend, enjoy the happy hunting grounds, the steady breeze in your face and the bountiful game.

He was very knowledgeable and helpful to me as a young guy starting in the early 2000's, when he was the RO at the North Dunedin rifle range. I turned up fairly fresh to the centrefire scene, and he helped me set things up with ease, nothing was a bother to him, he was just interested in helping, and having a good chat about all things firearms (and if I recall correctly finding used brass reloading!) and RIP Chaz.

Well, that’s sucks. Always thought Chas would live forever. I’d caught up with him not so long ago after many years and it had seemed to me that he’d hardly changed. Will always remember him as an old school scholar and gentleman, who was always willing to give you time and advice or just chat in general. Will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. Safe journey my friend.

A good mate for the past 50 years, now at rest. I visited him a week ago in the hospice and he was alert and had been chatting to so many visitors that he was losing his voice. A great loss, not only to the firearms community but also to the University of Otago. The sheer number of visitors from both areas was testimony to the respect in which he was held. He told me during my visit that he regretted being unable to attend the annual PSI reunion shoot in March at Sparrowhawk, but he will be appropriately remembered at the event!

Only had the privilege a couple of times to chat to him and shoot by his side. Hell of a good guy and a great loss to the community, both in personality and knowledge.
