We farewelled Chaz at his memorial service in Dunedin today (what would have been his 77th birthday). It was a large turnout (over 400) with representatives of all the clubs and organisations he was involved with (NZDA, Colfo, PSI, Mountain Safety, etc, etc.). A lot of laughs and reminiscences, with lots of hunting photos and all his outdoor gear laid out on tables. There were several speakers, and Nicole McKee was also there in a private capacity. It lasted for 1-1/2 hours followed by the usual bun fight and catching up with friends we hadn't seen for a long time. I don't think Chaz appreciated the respect in which he was held although the endless stream of visitors at the hospice must have given him a clue. We have lost a true friend to the shooting sports, and I doubt that his equal will ever be seen again.

I was lucky enough to meet Chaz through the NZDA. He was a great guy, always keen to impart some reloading knowledge, and a true bastion of evidence-based firearms laws. Rip Chaz, thank you for your service

Yes - the Firearms Community lost a champion with the passing of Chas.

He helped me massively when I lived in Dunedin. Always interested in talking calibers, practical aspects of shooting. I feel we are running out of hero’s and he was one of the them.
