I remember gadgetman man putting up his tent in the snow in Kurow at the toby shoot
And him driving all the way up to the central north island in 2016 for the first shoot, certainly left an impression I mentioned to the wife this morning and after nearly 10 years she still remember him.
Rest in peace Gadgetman we'll miss ya.

Rest easy old mate. I liked how Gadget would have a yarn with anyone but he was straight up and marched to the beat of his own drum, wouldn't bend or modify his personality to conform to others and he was one of those blokes that just showed up, if he said he was going to be there, he was going to be there.
Took Gadget on a hunting trip up the Lewis pass a few years back that was hard case, he got out of my truck, threw his pack on, took two steps, and fell down a bank haha. He was struggling a bit with pain back then but he dragged himself up the hill, he said he was coming chamois hunting, so he came chamois hunting! He was a pretty quiet fella when you first met him but by golly he could have a yarn when you got him going! I remember on that same hunting trip he chewed my ear off about all sorts of stuff for hours then we retired to our respective tents and 5 minutes later I heard a "you still awake?" To which I replied "yep" and away he went again, think we finally stopped yarning at about 3 in the morning!
Will miss seeing you chap, seemed like everytime there was a bit of a get together of various forum members GM was a starter. Don't have any photos of GM he was an elusive fella around a camera but here's a photo that he took of a few of us last time I saw him. Hot barrels buddy

Oh dam thats from left field.

    Rip brother.

I remember at the 1st toby shoot and i think it was a yellow landcruzer got stuck on the yrack heading up the hill and Gadgetman was 1st on the spot to give him a snatch up the hill.

His 4x4 was well loaded with recovery straps and allsorts.

Yes Brian Reid aka Gadgetman died while on a hunting trip up behind Hanmer, Monday 14th. He was thoroughly enjoying a deer stalk on a beautiful day, and had only been walking for 20 minutes from the hut when he suddenly fell, and passed instantly. His mate tried CPR for 30 minutes with no response, then activated locator beacon which bought Westpac chopper to location in 45 minutes. Prior to the moment he was happy, in a beautiful mountain environment, and he passed instantly without pain doing what he enjoyed. He was 61.

Brian was a very active member of our Cantab shooting team for over 15 years, and is sadly missed. He was an all round good man, ready to help anyone. He was a cornerstone of our team for 140-150 trips - a selfless contributor in everything he did. On shoots it was never about him - and even when he had serious mobility issues earlier on he would be up opening gates/driving etc so others could always have their best opportunities.

We shot tens of thousands of bunnies, and at our peak period around 2008-2014 Brian had the record for fastest 100 at 43 minutes!!! Faster than me! He was a fine shooter and thoroughly enjoyed his years - taking bunnies, possums, wallabies, pigs, deer. Great man to have on any trip.

He and I developed hunting lights over the early years culminating in the Maxtoch hunters of 5-6 years ago. We knew product around the world and without exaggeration these kiwi designed Maxtochs were the best hunting lights in the world for 2-3 years. A most enjoyable experience.

He was an active and supportive site member on NZHS - helping alot of people. He will be missed. My good mate of 15 years - go well brother. Mike (Mudz)
