That photo was taken at Morgan Saxtons funeral, Dave’s son.

One memorable one was he was going to drop me in yo the back of the Clark in the Haast. Most of the way there he started swearing and cussing and landed on a snowy ridge and got out. The bottom of the helicopter was soaked in engine oil. His son about 16 then, had checked the oil and run the machine up. Dave just walked out and got in and we flew. He didn’t check anything.
His son apparently had forgotten to put the oil filler cap back on and it had pumped who knows how much oil out.
After a few more choice words we flew back to the Haast Highway, landed and he switched it off.
We awaited his son with some fresh oil. You can imagine the reception his son got!
He filled it with oil and we completed the journey!
I would be interested what other stories are out there!
In the first Chopper Boys book by Forester there was a story about an argument at a pub over darts. Proof about the bullseye was sorted with a thing that goes bang. It got edited out.

My mate now deceased prosecuted Sax on his first illegal hunting charge. Once court finished Sax walks up to him shakes his hand and says if he comes to the pub he'll shout him a beer and that there were no hard feelings. Sax's brothers were all qualified professionals in various fields. Ngai Tahu had a charging order over his farm at Haast. His appeal in the CA established important rules on expert evidence at trial.
