Is it the lower FOV on the thermal that enables them to make this unit at what seems to me low cost? Also does that lower resolution sensor mean the detection distance is shorter or just that you will be looking at a smaller 'window'?

It looks easy enough to turn it into a handheld unit so it could be used on public land too.

It has a 12 micron sensor so will be the same as any other 25mm thermal in regards to resolution (384 or 640). It will have a narrower FOV though due to the smaller sensor size. Detection distance is more of a lens size attribute. Bigger lens longer detection range.

I would avoid being in possession of a thermal scope or a clip on thermal used as handheld. I think you are entering into a legal loss there.
