Definitely could be an antler wound, an exit/entry wound that big would have caused so much internal damage that it's unlikely to have survived long.

I can just see that going wrong. Certainly could change the outcome of forgetting a few rounds in the pocket and getting rained on, or the wife putting the said trousers through the washing machine.
