From memory, Hummels occur from fawns being removed from their mother (hind) too early- perhaps the hind was shot or died or something else happened but if the fawn does not stay with its mum long...

Look to me like it's had antlers but has dropped them. I have come across two reds that I suspected were humels but they didn't have any sign of antler formation at all. Here's one. 251196
