Update for what the heck... I've communicated with NZ Firearms licensing personnel and come to the conclusion that (if'n we move there in 2023) I won't be a legal firearm owner until 2026 or 2027...

You were actually still in Otago, just. Personal experience has shown me the quickest way to improve your shot placement is to ruin a hind quarter or two! Happens to us all. Glad you had a good day.
