I remember catching a 9lb fish in the river just upstream from the mouth fishing with the old man. I would have been 10 or 11. Quite a good hole with 4 or 5 others fishing there. Buggers just laughed...

Yes, I remember well those days down the Rakaia mouth. 25 - 35 pound fish were the norm. Shoulder to shoulder with surprisingly few tangles, and Kahawai were a bloody nuisance

You're showin your age Mick - its a lot more complicated that that these days, and thats why you need your iphone before you make the shot. Just as well the deer aren't in a hurry no more :D

Yep, I agree. Social media has a huge influence on hunting these days. The days of inch and a half high at a hundred to shoot anything out to 300yds are gone, and most of us had a lot of trouble...

Fiordland is probably the only exception to the "If I dont shoot it, someone else will" mentality. Look how long its taken to get that message through and even then, the trigger gets pulled on...

A deer shot in the head wont mind if its a 50 gr or 60 gr pill. Id rebarrel, and keep it as 222. Apart from the "noise reduction" theres no real advantage to a suppressor on a .222
