Do you have any pictures of the tabs for the butt joint? You could probably save a fair bit of weight by vacum bagging it.... then it's just a small step to a one piece stock with a latex bladder

The Barnaul slugs are like that, and even then they are in a plastic sabot. A couple of .375-.395 round balls would probably be better
