Open sights seem to be easier in my experience with kids especially with a full size rifle. Apeture is better than tangent, "look through the hole and make the birdie sit on the post".

Cheers for the advice! There were some average shots but there was a bit of wind affecting the longer shots. I have just got my .300 win mag so will be focusing on neck shots for deer
