Don't use ballistic tips or target projectiles you need penetration. Good old cup and core/sp are best.

My 2 cents I use a 12g semi with buckshot when shooting orchards or inside 30-40m. 223 for the rest seems to work for me. A lever action 30-30 with red dot would be something I'd look at too

Carboned cleaned it today took about 5 goes before I started getting clean patches so hopefully sorted that problem. Pulled it out of the stock and checked for wear etc mag box moves so isn't bound...

What most are saying about the 17hmr vs 22 is based on projectile choices. You can use ballistic tips in a 22lr or 22wmr and achieve much the same. Problem with the ballistic tips is they are no good...

Ammo wise 22lr is the place to be or split the difference and go 22wmr. I have a lithgow la101 22wmr if your looking for a good all rounder

Can depend on where the steak was cut from too. Ie to far down towards the neck and your in chuck or stewing territory. Could be high ph or old animal. As for aging it can be done after freezing....

For me I use the collected stuff for culling etc so when you loose the brass it's not a biggy have new brass for precision shooting.
