Approaching a likely looking spot I slow, inching forward on my stomach and pushing the 243 out front so it could have a look around, I could see, but only just Binos in hand I peered into the...

If you haven’t previously used a 22 centrefire with 77TMK, 73, 80 or 88gr ELD-M, then take one of them hunting. Why? Well it’ll do the job, and you may just enjoy it.

That's a great point Stocky. I'm not a fan of heavy recoil and prefer lighter calibres. Went for a 223 in the bush for that exact reason, where shot placement is critical. It's an enjoyable round...

The same can be said of any catridge. People shooting big cartridges losing animals always seem to go straight to it was a bad shot but small cartridges they go straight to its the catridge. In all...

Remington 700, Tikka T3, Sako 90, Howa Mini, Bergara are all available in 1:8 twist barrels and a Hornady 73gr ELDM factory load is available in NZ. Unfortunately no factory load is available at the...

Not that I need convinced (I'm already a 223 fan) But there's a 3 hour podcast, 2 parts at 1.5hours each. Then another hour Q&A that covers pretty much all of the merits of using a smaller...

If on private property I always check with the owner as to what he would like.....Nothing gets your permission to be on there revoked quicker than if you leave carcasses/gutbags where his missus and...

I think 223 a legitimate deer cartridge. Personally I hunt with something larger to give me a wider margin of error. People should hunt with whatever they back themselves with.

I could start a thread documenting my attempt to kill every species of game animal in the country with the .223, but I’m such a shit hunter, most of us will be dead before I complete it!

The thing with "margin for error" is that permanent wound cavities aren't really that different in size that you can significantly miss the important bits with larger bullet vs. a smaller bullet and...

I was using my 7mm rem mag for about the first 10 deer I shot and my furtherest shot was 490 meters. I have shot over 20 deer with my 223, shoulder shots, neck shots and head shots with the...

I did count. for a reply in another thread. What it came down too was the 223 is mostly used for shooting fallow, yearlings and hinds. There were something like 14 red stags shot and by only 3 or 4...

Since I started shooting deer exclusively with a .223 I have lost (1) deer, which I shot in the shin at 270 metres, through a defective bullet or operator error - it was wildly inexplicable. A .338...

I have shot every stag I've shot in the roar for the past 5 years with a .224" 80gr ELDM at 2700-2800fps mv, and I haven't found any cause for complaint. Ranges to 380 metres. There is a large...

I remain of the view that there is value in using a calibre/projectile that blows big holes out the other side..... has helped me find a number of Sika bush hunting over the years.
