90% of people couldn't reliably shoot animals over 200m in a hunting situation so for someone who isn't reloading, using a rangefinder and a chart there is really no appreciable difference between...

My opinion is that it actually does make a difference. Here's why: 308 factory loads better long range (over 250m) as flatter shooting. 6.5 better in every other way due mainly to less recoil,...

I was in a similar situation so bought 1of each and never looked back. If I had bought my Sako in 6.5 I doubt I have got a 308

[QUOTE=Dougie;480369]What makes you say that? My old flatmate had one and I looked at everything through it and the novelty didn't wear off. Interesting how different materials retained heat (cool...

I've seen people spend much, much more money on fast cars only to sit in rush hour traffic 5 days a week.....

You could use the same argument for using a gun over a knife when hunting wild game.

The last deer I "thermalled" I spotted at around 900y in regenerating native bush in a spot impenetrable to the naked eye. an hour or two later he walked out onto a clearing in plain veiw but no...

I took a rich Canadian guy out hunting and he had a thermal camera, it was pretty easy to identify the animals so I don't think you would mistake a person for a deer that easily. It was cool seeing...

I use boring old 120gr Pro Hunters out of my 6.5 at a glacial speed of 2550. Still kills reds dead, lungs, neck or head.

Inside 400yds or so the 130gn SST, out of a 6.5x55 will do just fine. Big reds are not hard to kill clean if you get the shot right to start with.
