I only read about half the posts above and don't understand half you guys saying 6.5 or .260 are too slow or this, that or the other. FFS! Ricochet said he's after pigs in broken bush and deer in the...

I think its frequently a technique and mental thing rather than physical, which is why its often inexperienced shooters that struggle with it. Stock fit and shape is a factor too.

Hi Ricochet, I am new to this forum but have been shooting for a while. One thing to be aware of is the weight of the rifle will affect how you feel recoil i.e. a super light .308 may kick more than...

It always amuses me when someone thinks a 270 is 'flat shooting' because they didn't hold over at 200m.

But if you've punished yourself too much with the recoil at the range you'll probably flinch and miss the deer anyway. Especially if you're a new shooter and haven't learnt to deal with the recoil...

either 308 or 270 is a good cal, I would say 270 is the perfect all round cal for NZ conditions. Don't listen to what people say about recoil, people afraid of recoil on larger calibres need to...

I started hunting in the early 90's with no clue as to what to look for. We would walk along the tracks hoping to see a deer. Did a chopper trip into the Boyd Hut. We had no one to show us. Found a...

You don't need "better gear". More deer were shot in NZ by a few men using ex-army 303's whilst wearing swandris, woollen singlets, undies and hobnail boots probably than all the gear junky hunters...
