    Caveat, if you plan to hunt the mountains in the south island, buy good outdoor gear. Most of the hunting brands are shit for that kind of application, and the ones that know what they are doing...

    Bring your UK stuff, it will be fine. If you are going to the mountains, your .270 will be perfectly adequate.
