The only logical way forward for this conversation, is for Hermitage to shoot himself in the other leg with a 308. That way we have a balanced data set for Gimp  Get to it chap!

I was shot in the leg by a .223 from close range in a hunting accident. The round entered the lateral side of my left leg about 5cm below the knee. It lodged in my tibia. It caused a compression...

I think 223 a legitimate deer cartridge. Personally I hunt with something larger to give me a wider margin of error. People should hunt with whatever they back themselves with.

I remain of the view that there is value in using a calibre/projectile that blows big holes out the other side..... has helped me find a number of Sika bush hunting over the years.

To cover kiwi conditions - .22, 223, and 308 (or similar), and 12 guage. There are of course other centrefire calibers just as effective as 308, but advantage with 308 is you always have a ready...

True... but, one party may have been legitimately out on private land, and who hasn't returned from a daytime deer hunt in the dark on the trip back. From the info we have so far it's doubtful the...

Just keep ff the relevant S&R frequencies in the SI :P It was tourists using Baofangs that majorly jammed things a few years back down south wasn't it?

Nice first post. Search the DoC website. It has everything you need to know there to make a start. Otago has heaps of public land blocks to hunt which most are easily accessed. Look forward to...

Good point, the foam is a chlorinated product so once it's burned it will keep releasing chlorine and in the wrong conditions hydrogen cyanide... Fairly nasty.

From previous experience I'd say you'll be very lucky anyone would allow that to be returned to the road. And when you do start to strip it, wear full ppe as all that burnt stuff is highly toxic!
