My vote is to stick with the 223. When I was looking the difference between 22wmr/17hmr and the 223 ammo prices was so little there was no point in the rimfires. It meant the gap between 22lr and 223...

Stop being silly. My 243 has been used to nail a young hunters first tahr with a pretty mild load. There is no way a heavier pill, with more speed, more energy, shooting tiny groups like your 25-06,...

Could it be considered that longer range is more ethical? It gives a better chance to assess the animal, and fully identify it, and decide whether to take it or not. I suspect fewer friends get shot...
