You'll not likely be wrong. He is quite comfortable with a .22 already, has had a go on the end of the 7.62 and didn't mind it.

thinking of getting some loctite 222 and just a set of torx keys. Will tighten em up to just that "right feel" of tightening, and then the loctite should keep em in place? .
