Hunting (even on my own) I do the 1/2 open bolt trick. See an animal and it's easy to quietly close the bolt the rest of the way. Never carry that way until I'm in the actual hunting area though....

44 magnum. That's it...no argument. About the same trajectory, lots more hitting power, makes a bigger hole...what's not to like? Yeah, a wee bit more recoil...but we aren't talking 12g slugs here.
