    grip pin with sidecutters on bottom end then tap jaws on side with small hammer , might take a few goes to punch through peened side thats how I remove some car ignition barrels , just be patient .

    i peronally would consider this base for a winchester 70 https://www.leupold.com/std-winchester-70a-1-pc-base-gloss leupy wont let you down and has more class than a pic rail (my opinion only)...

    Im shooting a Mod 70 in 308. Tried several different types of bases and rings but were never happy with consistancy. Ended up ordering me a pic rail from Badger Ordnance and a set of rings....

    Agree that if the current setup is solid and you can live with it just go with that. No issues with top loading that way which would would not be so straightforward with a one piece rail in place. ...
