Id start of by just removing material in the barrel channel and leave the bedding till after testing. I did exactly this on a sako for one off Buzzmans mates just recently. Removed enough material...

I would remedy it mate. 1 sheet of paper aint enough. If you hang a can on the end of the barrel or even fit a bipod, its going to contact the wood under recoil.
