I pretty much ignore primers now, except if they're pierced. They can be softer or harder. And different brass is also softer or harder...if a I get a stiffish bolt I will try another brand of brass...

I wash .44-40 brass in water, and its fine. Just looks old and coppery. I wouldnt worry about that brass it all. Looks like someone fired some kind of duplex load in them. Just go and shoot them....

As long as it will still shoot an 85 grain Sierra BTHP the world will still turn. But if it only shoots heavy bullets well I am not interested.
