When I first started meat hunting I used Sierra 52 grn match hollow point. Great cheap little bullet that behave a bit like the Barnes do.

If I didn't have too many rifles and not enough time left to use them all I would get a Mauser M18 in 6.5prc for $1,250, chop it to 18-20" (I would do 20"), put a dpt on it and call it my only rifle....

Plenty of scope for what you wanna do with family... As .264magic said... that leading spur up to Te Rua tops... go south on those tops as there's some nice grassy gullies... even continuing south...
