With the 6.5x55 at least book loads assume you have a swedish m1896 action. The m 38 is quite a bit stronger and modern rifles stronger again.

Quickload says Max with 2206H and 180 gn projs is 42.0 gn's for nearly 2600 fps (from a 24.5" barrel) - a very snorty but well balanced load I'd say with all powder burnt - Its MAX so work up to it....

I would've thought less headspace wouldn't be an issue? I do realise that some factory ammo may not fit properly though.

Sorry. I did'nt read the full post. If the bolt will close on factory ammo your actually lucky and would be able to shoot it that way - please just always keep an eye on the cases looking for...
