See Alistair at Ashurst engineering, Bis 80would be the minimum hardness you want, preferably AR 400, or Brinel 400 or ideally 500 would last for ever.

At $60 its not a huge investment, I have two old hammerguns with internal pitting both shoot fine, it has no effect on pattern shape. If it was me Id buy it.

The smk were crap in my rifle, ok at 50 m gone all over the place by 200, so I doubt the tmk will be different. Heaviest I can spin properly are 64 grain winchester, might be interested in swapsies...

Most guys myself included find 2206h to be about the best in the 223, but 2208 is good too as you have discovered. The barnes are weird little things that may be too long to have stableise in a 12...

If you reload just think of the saving, no 2nd set of dies, no different projectiles, powder, cases or primers. Why that alone will make the new rifle practically free.
