Cast projectiles are probably best but with a big meplat. The bigger the cal the better (more mass to penetrate and energy to transfer), trajectory would be the same as for a .22 sub. 44 mag or long...

Cunning trick to prevent ricochets straight back is to hang the steel so it slopes at around 10 degrees or more backward, this deflects the bits of bullet downwards.

Check your twist rate with a cleaning rod. 55gr is bout max for 1:12. You want penetration on bigger animals and the lighter 223 bullets aren't designed to give that. The copper ssts and the like may...

An 1896 no1 mk 1 lee enfield has a carbine barrel with all the inspectors marks plus the usual HG stamps. A fun gun for goats 35290 not so much fun for them.
