    I have extra low Talleys on my Tikka with a 40mm scope. 1-2mm clearance. Not saying anyone else should do the same, but it works for me.

    Depends how far you are shooting and target size. For 100+ metre head shot rabbits, I don't think 18x would be outrageous. For shooting possums on a tree branch above your head, 4x should be plenty!
