   Rudd are not considered good to eat, at least not in the western world. Perch can be good depending on their environment, clear water, koura-fed etc. Don't know about catfish. You won't go far wrong...

    Why doubt it was a great white? They are not uncommon in NZ waters. When I was seriously in to SCUBA diving, I was flying all over the world to dive with sharks. Even made the trip down to Bluff...

    Just to add to the discussion. It's been a very sharky summer, more so than normal. Every fisherman/diver I've spoken to has had a problem with sharks taking fish, or making a nuisance of themselves...
