I set up a .243 for the kids/missus to use. Shortend stock. Low bipod and basic holdover reticle scope. I load 90 gr Speers with 2208, works really well. They have all taken deer with it. Son even...

When you get in to reloading try Sierra 52 grain hollow point match projectiles. I use them in 220 Swift and 223. Easy to get to shoot. A bit harder than Blitz, Vmax types and not as spectacular,...

I have taken 1 red stag with mine needed a follow up shot even though first shot was only 30m but was front on. It deals well to possums, hares and Canada geese too. Or at least it has done.

The extractor is the little finger lever under the fore end It is perfectly parallel to the bore and gave reliable extraction with the variably sized 44 RF brass of those times 258337

Here are some of the rimfires I now shoot 22 LR 25 RF reloadable and an original 44 Ballard long rimfire dummy 258327 The 44 Ballard long is the biggest of the 44 RF cases of that period

Those few hundred meters per second between a .223 and a 22 250 transform it into the hammer of Thor, due to E=MV squared. I well remember watching deer begin to drop through the scope 300m...

It's OK to leave a bit of meat on the hill Micky, the deer is dead and if you take a bit less you run out faster and get to hunt more.

Shooting heavies in the 223 makes it more useful on larger thin skinned game like deer But if the 22/250 had a fast twist tube then the tables are turned, in an extremely useful fashion
