Thanks Micky Duck but at this stage I'd much rather go with the red dot.

Red stag and Fallow spiker last evening. Both about 150 yards. Both lung shot. Both pass throughs. Both 60 grn Hammer Hunter at 3,150 fps. Red ran about 30 yards which was a good thing 'cos he ran...

20 would be ideal. I've got a 20" 243 featherweight with dpt. Balances and carrys well in the bush. In fact, it's currently my preferred bush rifle. I'm a confirmed 270 guy and wouldnt go under 20...

Agreed the original was almost pointless as far as recoil reduction the limbsaver has made a huge difference to the shoulder

    A 19" or 20" surpressed 270 would ideal.

The older duley guy is a bloody inspiration the way he gets around. Im in my early fifties and can plod along at turtle pace most of the day which is probably an advantage in the bush anyway 🙂 Older...

Micky Duck liked post by svt40 On thread : Beginner question: Using pistol projectile for 7.62x54r?
I think M-H is on the money - those lead bullets are probably expecting to see 1600 fps. With a generous burn of 2208 youre probably spraying near-molten lead out the end of the mosin at 3000 fps....

So here's my take on comparing old with new I will start in 1873 which is when my Alexander Henry 450 was delivered to the customer who ordered it. To the best of my ability in asking some...

Micky Duck liked post by Pommy On thread : Beginner question: Using pistol projectile for 7.62x54r?
Jump shouldn't be an issue unless the freebore is so baggy that it allows the projectile to significantly rotate. Even on a Mosin with a drainpipe for a barrel, I find that unlikely. But over 40...

I think we know the problem, the bullets your using are HBRC cast projectiles designed for the 32/20 and pistol velocities. That load of 2208 if it burned completely would push them at around 3000...

I have looked at the bullets you are using and they are a plain bevel base design. I suspect that you will have better luck keeping the speed down to no more than 1400ft/sec. I've had best accuracy...

When I turned 30 began to worry how many hunting years were left. Now at 76 still walk 8-15 km most days, can't carry much due to buggered back but don't struggle with the mileage.
