A red dot will negate the need for higher end magnification to some extent and help with poor light if the scope is not super good

Keep the current scope for now and keep your eyes out for a secondhand scope. Something in the 3-15 would be ideal. I’ve got a Leupold vx6 2-12x40 on my rifle, love it but the reticle is a bit thick....
