I think it's more about clean bore than cold bore. Fouler seems more off zero than cold bore shot. I put one into the bank or somewhere at the start before I'm lining up on an animal.

Kahawai make beautiful sashimi, more highly regarded than snapper on our boat! Trevally is best, but it's easy to pick up a Kahawai, often from where we've put the anchor down for the night.
