Had a mate drop in some fresh snapper he caught of Port Ohope on his kontiki yesterday. He uses Kahawai for bait, scales it first. Reckons the fishing is really hotting up.

I had a diamondback but I found the glass terrible, blurry as hell on the edges. I may have got a dodgy one but I'd pick a VX1 or a Freedom any day based on that. Can normally pick up a decent VX1...

Or just get one of these. A mate uses one and likes it. https://www.fishingtacklesale.co.nz/product/kontiki-fishing-dropper-rig-shorething

Seen one setup where a rod was fixed to the back of the Kontiki that was curved forward and down. the line with the hooks is attached to a metal ring which is slipped over the rod. While the kontiki...

139042 I use salted mullet. However any tough bait that will stay on the hook will work. Avoid pillys etc as they are too soft.

Yes, trout is excellent bait. I used old frozen stuff from freezer when living near Waihi beach and it caught fish. The only hassle is the skin is ultra ultra tough. I used an Iki spike to make a...

Pigs from pureora in the winter that have been eating a lot of miro berries are the best pork you will eat.

Spent 2 hours with this family not far off the road in Arthurs Pass. They became so comfortable with my presence they were just lying there chewing their cuds at about 30m. What an amazing experience.
