Might have to check rings and mounts for "true" and then lap rings to be sure. Tension/torsion on the scope tube will magnify recoil stress.

Used a 7mm/08 for nearly 20 years a decade or so back and found the Hornady 139 flat base to be a reliable and good killer and I have no reason to believe it would be any different now.
