I reckon you have it sussed bit of the two things.......unconsistant closing and the forend thing...being a break open you loading downwards WITHOUT consistant thing to push onto will not be doing...

No, can't say I've noticed any stringing. But I've not shot anything that gives me too much resistance when closing up. I think my brass is sized such that how much force is used to close the action...
