About oneshot
Biography:
Grew up on a farm so hunting came naturally, I learnt to respect wild game and shoot for the freezer, not for the sake of killing to get numbers. I believe you dont have to kill something to enjoy a good hunt. A photo is worth as much as an animal dead on the ground.

Upper Hutt

Trail Running, Hunting, fishing, any excuse to be out in the bush

Nice Stag, I'd be keen to hear more about hunting in the UK in regards to rules, laws, permits etc. Do you have to draw tags and hunting blocks to drop Red deer?

That's an interesting topic, I would have personally thought 150 deer over 20 years is not an excessive number to be honest. Two things that have made my hunting the way it is, firstly watch animal...

oh yeah, Deer in hard hit areas do know what days of the week it is, which is why I NEVER hunt on weekends, plus I go in the bush to get away from people not be surrounded by gun toting strangers.

There are 5 local stags that now wont be making trophies next year ;) As some on here may have learnt, I'm not a trophy hunter in the slightest.

The further South from the top of the country you go, the less people you see.

Its just a myth, there was a good article written in the NZ Hunter magazine about this exact topic, I have shot plenty of animals with a 270 and at close range it flattens them, dead on their feet.

I like your style Joshc, I have let far more deer go than ones I have actually shot. If my freezer is full I still go out hunting, but the difference is I choose not to kill anything, far better...

First experimental batch, I cut it really thin so it dried fast, tastes fantastic! it was a bit of a bitch to vacuum seal as some of the jerky bits have sharp edges and pierced the bag? I will leave...

Just trying an oven batch of Jerky, did a bit or research as to temperature etc. Next on the Plans is to make a large wooden smoke box and make a huge run of the stuff.
