Are you really going to be shooting to 400m? A nice light and hand rifle in 7.62x39. Plenty of single shot break actions around for safe carry, or go a CZ in a bolt action. Light on recoil and...

Unless you plan to get into reloading I'd probably leave the 6.5's, if you intend to start they would be great. As said above, any 6.9x64, 7mm, 30 cal supressed if you wish will get the job done....

As already suggested 6.5x55 or maybe a 260. I think the Swede will be cheaper to run if you are not a reloader. My 16yr old is a skinny bugger and shoots my 260Imp fine.

Good on ya for wanting to set the lad on the straight and narrow. I won't offer advice except to say that none of the above is bad advice.

.270 suppressed really has it covered. Recently I suppressed my second .270 and now it is a baby to shoot even with some of the extra hot loads I make up for it.

What 7mmsaum said. Or get one in .308Win. I probably wouldn't get the lightest model T3x either. Just get a standard stainless synthetic or the hunter model as the slightly more weight will help...
