You're possibly alluding to the stapedial reflex which is in fact totally useless for intense impact sounds like rifle shots. As for the harden-up approach of Woodsy, he may be one of the lucky...

Pommy liked post by Spitfire On thread : Dpt suppressor
It’s a trade off between size, weight and noise reduction, cos physics. Small and light = louder, big and heavy = quieter. I think DPT has the balance about right, but still need ear defence on...

The past couple of weekends have been huge for me. I've been shooting targets for a couple of years now but had not yet hunted game. Last year I went out for a duck shoot out on the Waikato river and...

Pommy liked post by Flyblown On thread : A good calibre on pigs
They never run off wounded if you shoot them properly. With pigs, no question about it in my mind, the best way to kill them is to shoot them in the head. Big boars or fat heavy sows can take a...

Pommy liked post by Edunn On thread : Funky speeds - Riddle me this
Yeah it's got me confused. Weighing with Hornady beam scales - they're pretty good. I am wondering whether it could be a genuine large ES, as Pommy suggests - I just ran the data and there is...

Pommy liked post by Flyblown On thread : Sierra & Hornady bullet sections
Following on from some recent threads with Q&A on some of the common bullets we use, I thought I'd have another look at the comparative construction using sections, some we've done ourselves (thanks...

Pommy liked post by stug On thread : Who can figure this one out
First question, is the recoil lug sitting in the slot properly. It is possible to re-assemble a T3 and not have the lug sitting in the slot in the action properly. When you say "tap the turrets"...

Well put, each rifle to their own liking. 8208 worked better than CFE223 in mine with the 120-123gr. I haven't bothered with lighter as mine is just for out to 250 at max.

Pommy liked post by Wingman On thread : 300 Blackout barrel length
You need to consider the donor platorm you are working with. The .222 Brno fox has a shorter mag than the later CZ527 .222. The Fox had different length mags and bottom metal for all the...

AR2208 is a fine powder with 165/180gr bullets but many reloader's have found (myself included) AR2206H to be a better choice with the lighter 125/150gr bullets in shorter barrelled .308 rifles....
