    As the OP I agree with the sentiments that if you shoot at a police officer and you are fired upon you deserve what you get. That said I am amazed that it seems OK to have poorly trained officers...

    Given that they're a para-military force, I'm sure they can organise training for current weapon systems. NZP are spending 20 million on new body armor so surely they can substitute their budgeting...

    If they are expected to use firearms for any part of the job, of course they need training. I do not want someone given an AR15 to take to an armed incident and knowing the only information they have...

    I agree I have no issue with the police having access to firearms when they need them. But I would like to see far more training in how to get the best out them when the situation calls for it....
