Yes, heavy rifles are crap in every other aspect. One fair compromise (which is not really a compromise) is a heavy barrel shorty.

I used them in my .30-06 in the US, mostly at close range. At .308 velocities they will be perfect from close to 600 and beyond. Don’t over think it.
