Yup - similar here. Recent camp over a weekend. Some of us adults were deputized to supervise the air rifles. Good set up. Both kids and adults loved it. Safe as houses.

I use them - Black Diamond clip lock ones. Easy to strap to side of the pack when I don't need them, great to have walking down steeper sections.

I would consider trainers or trail runners or approach shoes in the mean time. Lightweight and more affordable. Some good deals around at the moment.
