"Balance" can be a bit of a personal thing. Personally I prefer something with a bit of weight in the nose. I don't shoot muzzle light rifles well.

Depending on barrel length, I would look at the 168/178 ELD-M for a short barrel 2500-2600mv or the 150gn Nosler BT if you are running them faster (2700fps+). They have both worked for me out to 300...

I think the range of factory ammo available for the 223 is far better than for the 222 these days.
