Deer can't recognize anything wrapped in camo tape. They are very alert for scopes and barrels.......

He realises it'll take the 'crack' out but not the bang? I use one on mine. Brings it down to Unsuppressed .22 super I reckon. Worth it, but make sure his expectations should be realistic.

I liked my 25" Harris when shooting wallaby and looking down gullies waiting for movement. They very comfortable shooting in that situation
