Pengy liked post by Spitfire On thread : Cobb fallow are certainly doomed
Sadly there isn’t a herd to wipe out as they have already been hammered repeatedly on both sides - Cobb and Mt Arthur. It’s the biggest mast year since the last biggest mast year and there are...

Danny liked post by Spitfire On thread : Reloading for 270 Win
What he said. Partitions aren’t trendy and full of BCs, but they still do the job superbly at close to moderate ranges. ELD-X is very good too.

One of the estate stalkers in Scotland told me a story on the hill that bears that out. He said a mate of his caught a stag calf and kept it well fed in one of his paddocks. It developed into big...

xtightg liked post by Spitfire On thread : 12 gauge slug accuracy
I used a Browning rifled barrel slug gun in the US for whitetail outside the rifle season. From memory it was a 20 gauge with 300 grain Remington slugs. With the v sights it grouped about 3 inches at...

SlimySquirrel liked post by Spitfire On thread : Do you really need an expensive 6x zoom scope?
Need? No. Want? Yip. Z6i and VX6 in my stable. I like to have 3x for bush hunting and 15-18 for longer shots and animal assessment. That said, I shot most of my deer with a fixed power 8x...

Kiwi Greg has done builds on them and may be able to comment. General chat suggests they are significantly better quality than the Remingtons they copy.

The point is to make Hornady lots of money :) it’s the ballistic twin of 6.5-.284, but the marketing hype says its better somehow. Apparently it’s kinder on barrels too as it can defy the laws of...

I never use expander balls in any of my dies these days. I expand with a K&M mandrel first then bushing neck die on outside turned cases to get precise tension. Before I arrived at this way of doing...

14 year old pair of Swarovski 8.5x42 ELs. Don’t see any reason to ever replace them. For me, good binos are far more important than other bit of kit for hunting.
