    Sauer 100 at $1200 would be well worth a look (couple of hundred over budget though). They have a good alloy block bedding system and nice trigger. You should be able to just mount a 'scope and go...

    Its got a little turbo head thing on it and puts out quite a strong flame. Apart from going behind a tree or a bank I've never had to protect it. 74712
