    Yup, that is normal. The hammer strikes a captive firing pin that is held back by a spring. It is part of the safety mechanism of the rifle.

    I did read about a guy who had something like this happen with an AR15. He took it to a gunsmwith, they screwed a fitting onto the end of the barrel and pumped grease into it until it came out.
